"Exactly what you need for a giant TV" 2010-06-22
By J. Conrad (San Francisco, CA USA)
I recently purchased a Sony Bravia KDL-60EX500 (60-inch) television (and was lucky enough to get a big discount from a friend who works for Sony.). Anyway, I figured I'd take some of the money I saved and spend it on a quality wall-mount. From the moment I unboxed the OmniMount UCLX, I knew I had made the right decision.

This is one heavy-duty piece of hardware. You will definitely need at least one other person to get this thing onto your wall-- not to mention needing at least one other person to help you get the TV onto the mount (especially if you've got a monster-sized TV).
The paper template (patented, I believe) is extremely helpful when you're trying to make sure you're lined up with the centers of your wall studs. It would be nearly impossible (without help, anyway) to hold the mount itself up on the wall while trying to make pencil marks for your drill holes. The template, however, made it a snap. There's also some leeway (a half inch or so) on the template (and mount) itself so that you can shift the mount left/right if your studs aren't perfectly 16 inches apart like mine were.

My wife and I were able to c a r e f u l l y lift the TV onto the mount--although it was a little dicey and I'd probably recommend a third person for peace of mind. It's not really worth dropping your expensive TV just so you don't have to ask a friend to help out. :)

The hardware itself is top-quality. It's quickly apparent why the box was so heavy since the joints, welds, and moving parts are all extremely solid. It's relatively easy to reposition the TV-- swiveling it around for varied viewing positions. Bear in mind, you're not going to be able to swivel your TV a full 90-degrees, but if your TV is large enough, 75-degrees is plenty for most room layouts. I'm a little confused as to why there are 4 (yes, 4) different sized allen wrenches for the various tilt, roll, swivel adjusters. Fortunately, once you get it adjusted, you won't really need them unless you want to tighten it up every once in a while. (I'm in earthquake country so it's probably worth doing every 6 months or so.)

Lastly, I bought the silver mount despite having a black TV. Honestly, it doesn't make much of a difference considering the fact that the mount isn't particularly visible. (remember which side of the TV you'll be on.)

Overall, the design is great and I have full confidence that this will stay put on my wall. Cord management could be a little better (not a ton of space to stuff thicker wires) but you can definitely work it out.

Definitely recommend this mount and I'd definitely purchase another product from OmniMount if I had the need again.

     "Really Great Product!" 2010-04-06
By Destiny L. Lavendure-laux (Vancouver, WA)
I chose this wall mount based on the positive reviews and my knowledge of the brand. I am not disappointed at all! We have a 55" Samsung LCD and it works great for it. It was super easy to install and looks awesome on the wall. It can be a little tough for me to pull it out (I'm a slim 5'2" girl) but as I almost never move it I don't see it as much of a problem.

"Older model OmniMount cantilever for REALLY big screens. (mine isn't)" 2010-03-25
    By Mr. Me
Sturdy product! Only design flaws I found were: 1) The plastic caps made for covering the ends of the cross-bars did not fit snuggly so they easily fall out (and I don't want to glue them in). Does NOT hinder function. 2) One of the thin plastic squares used to cover the wire access areas was broken in the box. Fortunately, this allowed for plugs to fit through with out having to drill a hole in it myself ;? (We all know a cracked panel is so uncool. I fixed it up a bit.) 3) Due to the great size range this mount can handle, the cross-bars are fairly noticable on my smaller-end big screen. As I'm sure you figured, I got a 42in which the mount accomodates with ease, but also due to the layout of the tv's mounting holes (not the mount itself), I feel almost as if all the forces are focus right at the center of the screen rather than being better dispursed across the entire rear of the screen. Plus, just my luck, the cross-bars naturally go right over my wire inputs on the back. Omnimount took this issue into account and provides spacers to help give us room for access to the inputs. Problem is, this just accentuates the focusing of vectors right to the center of my tv. (What a level arm I have.) Again, this is tv design flaw in my opinion, not a mount issue. Lastly, as for the seller, pretty good. Reasonable ship and travel time. Box looked as if it had been opened before and the previous owner chickened out on assembly. Looks intimidating, but is quite easy. Just heavy, so company planning to benefit from this tv may need to assist in its mounting process. ;). One last tidbit. While I was shopping I found a newer (slimmer) model Omnimount availible now with the same swiveling abilities (just about everywhere), so check that lower profile version out, too. That one costs a bit more however. Your Welcome.

Bomber construction. Installed with 2.5 people no problem, mounting hardware was fine for us. Great TV mobility installed.

"Very good articulating TV mount" 2009-12-13
    By Pamela
I purchased this mount for a 46 Sony LCD TV and for the money, I have found this very sturdy and relatively easy to install. I purchased this model because it uniquely allowed me to place a 46" TV in a wall niche that was recessed several inches and allowed me to make the TV look like it is suspended in the niche and flush with the walls on either side and with the face of the cabinets below. It allows great range of motion and I can easily swivel the unit to get access to remove it from its mount or gain rear access to the TV. Installation was straightforward and the device is very sturdy, but still articulates quite easily. the only drawback is that the bracket that attaches to the TV uses a metal plate that unfortunately for the Sony TV covers the cable access, so in order to add, change out or check cables, you have to remove the mounting bracket on the TV. This should be TV model dependent, but for mine, it was and is an issue. Also, the plastic covers that go over the brackets do not come off very easily and cracked as I was trying to remove them to make adjustments. Regardless, this is a well made and very flexible bracket that provides a very good range of motion.
